HOUSE SPRINGS, MO — Racers across the country will get a chance to compete for prestigious trophies with the IHRA Ironman Classic at four different tracks over the next four Saturdays.
The IHRA Ironman Classic program is offered to all IHRA member tracks. Prior to this program, a Sportsman racer could only win an Ironman if they traveled to an IHRA Summit Team Finals, Sportsman Spectacular or World Finals. This program gives local tracks a chance to create extra excitement in their bracket program and offer competitors a chance to win the prestigious Ironman.
Wisconsin International Raceway has the IHRA Ironman Classic this Saturday in addition to its normal IHRA Summit SuperSeries points race. The Outagamie County, Wisconsin track is one of the country’s top motorsports facilities with the 1/4-mile drag strip and a 1/2-mile NASCAR short track.
The IHRA Ironman Classic will be in the great Southwest at Albuquerque Dragway the following week on Saturday, August 10. New Mexico’s premier drag strip features a great history and unique challenges with its mile-high elevation and density altitude.
Another great member track, Amarillo Dragway in Texas, will be the site of the IHRA Ironman Classic on August 17. It’s another track with a rich history, site of the IHRA World Finals from 1975-77 where the winners included 17-time world champion “Big Daddy” Don Garlits, IHRA Hall of Famer Rickie Smith, Bob Glidden and Raymond Beadle.
Ethridge Motorsports Park completes the list of tracks with its IHRA Ironman Classic on August 24. It’s a continuation of great racing at the Tennessee drag strip, which is scheduled to run the final rounds of IHRA Sportsman Spectacular presented by Moser on August 10.
